Year 4

We begin the year with a focus on geography looking at the human and physical characteristics, key topographical features and land use of the United Kingdom.

In the Spring Term, our topic is Africa where we continue with a geography focus.  We start by looking at the geographical diversities of Africa. During this topic, we also compare our lifestyles and amenities to those in Mbale. Towards the end of the term we compare Benin 900-1300 AD to Britain in the same time period.

During the Summer Term, our topic is Ancient Egypt. We begin by locating the Ancient Egyptians on the timeline followed by investigating how the Ancient Egyptians were grouped in a hierarchical society. We learn about their lives, Gods, mummification and the building of pyramids.

Year 4 PE takes place on Monday afternoons.

Most individual homework pieces should take no longer than 20 minutes. If your child is finding the work challenging, please write 20 minutes where they have stopped. However, we realise some children prefer to spend longer to ensure tasks are completed.

Monday – New spellings list given out for a test on the Friday.

Monday – Topic/English and Maths homework tasks are set, due back on the Thursday.

Reading –   Read at home at least five times a week.

Your child needs to practice their times tables regularly and will be tested at different points during the week.
