The Government is committed to funding primary school sport with money to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all children.
Funding is calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils at each school. Primary Schools receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil. This has resulted in funding of £9,510 in 2016-17.
At the Chandler, Sports Premium funding is used to provide the two hours of statutory Physical Education required in each year group every week. Specifically, the funding supports a teacher, two teaching assistants and an external coach. In addition, there is a wide range of Clubs that provide opportunities for all our children to participate in football, tennis, netball, basketball, fitness, judo and other sports and activities. This helps children to achieve the four hours of physical activity a week recommended by the government.
Using the Sports Premium funding, Sports & PE provision at The Chandler has been enhanced as follows:
|Sports teacher to have additional three hours/week, to be used to enhance the range of Sports & PE provision for all children and increase the opportunity for competitive sport in school||£3 840|
|Extra Teaching Assistant to support delivery of Sports & PE||£4 675|
|Additional after school sports club provision free of charge to children||£2 640|
|Additional training for Sports & PE staff, and Classteachers as appropriate||£245|
|Total Estimated Cost in each year||£11,400|
The impact of the additional funding has ensured:
- Provision of a wider range of games and activities offered to children
- Increased number of clubs on offer
- Improved pupil attitudes and participation levels in sport
- Improved pupil fitness levels
- Improved staff confidence in planning and delivering lessons and club activities
