The first policy relates to children admitted in September 2008 and any wishing to be admitted during the remainder of the current academic year (i.e. until July 2009).
(These policies will open in a new window)
The second policy is relevant for the next round of admissions and relates to children wishing to be admitted for September 2009.
Should you have any queries about The Chandler’s Admission Policy, please contact Dr David Pollard, Chair of Governors, on the e-mail address below.
Standards
The information below relates to standards at The Chandler. It is split into several sections which relates to different aspects of standards and attainment. The first section is based around the school's profile.
The Chandler School Profile
What is the School Profile?
The school profile was launched in January 2006 to provide a standard format for schools to report annually to parents. It includes information about the the school's performance and broader achievements, both in and beyond the classroom. The profile replaces the Governors' Annual Report.
The school profile sets out how well the school is doing, how its performance compares locally and nationally and its strengths and plans for improvement.
Each Profile contains the following information:
- the school's successes
- details of extra-curricular activities
- health and safety information
- the school's response to the latest Ofsted report
The Chandler School Profile can be access from the Schools Finder webpage using this link.

Pupil Progress Data
This section contains all the data that relates to pupil performance at The Chandler and a comparison with National Data. There is an explanation of the testing your child will recieve at our school as well as a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section which may answer some of your queries in regard to leveling and data analysis.
SATs Tests
What are SATs?
Sats are the national curriculum tests children take at the end of key stages. Officially, they aren't called SATs - that's just the term most commonly used. It's a throwback to the Conservatives' 1991 trial run of Standard Assessment Tasks for six and seven-year-olds in England and Wales.
They started off as practical "tasks" and were turned into written tests that all pupils could take at once by then education secretary Kenneth Clarke.
They shouldn't be confused with the American SATs (pronounced S-A-T) that assess students' college potential.
When are the tests taken?
In England, the tests are usually taken in May. Children will be different ages when they take them, but roughly:
Age seven - KS1 national tests in English and maths are taken and marked in school. Teachers decide the level achieved
Age 11 - KS2 national tests in English, maths and science
Age 14: KS3 national tests in English, maths and science
Both KS2 and 3 are taken in school but marked externally and the school's overall results are published nationally.
SATs Results
The tables below are taken from the Government's league tables for school in our area. If you are unsure of what the league tables are and how they work, please read the explanation below.
How to read the tablesThese are the results of key stage 2 tests taken by 10 and 11-year-olds in May 2007 in English, maths and science.
The data has been supplied by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Each school is listed under its local authority area. Some schools are excluded, for example independent schools, infant schools that do not take children up to age 11, pupil referral units and schools in which 10 or fewer pupils took the tests.
The first column shows the number of pupils eligible for assessment at key stage 2. It excludes some pupils who have arrived in the UK recently whose first language is not English.
The second, third and fourth columns show the percentage of pupils achieving level 4 or above in English, maths and science. Level 4 is that which the government believes a child this age should have reached. Many pupils achieve level 5 in some or all subjects.
The fifth column shows the average achieved by all pupils across the three subjects. The points tariff is: level 2 or below, 15 points; level 3, 21 points; level 4, 27 points; level 5, 33 points.
The final column shows the value-added measure. Broadly speaking, this compares how well the children did at key stage 2 with how well they did at key stage 1 (at the age of 7). The idea is to measure how much their school has improved their performance. This measure was introduced following complaints that the raw results did not do enough to show improvements and therefore discriminated against schools that did well with children who had difficulties.
This year the "value-added" score has been calculated taking into consideration some "contextual" factors that are outside a school's control, such as gender, special educational needs, movement between schools and family circumstances. Under this "contextual value added" calculation, a score of 100 is regarded as "par". In smaller schools, however, the government says the value-added scores should be treated with caution.

Value Added Tables
Below is a table showing the Value Added contextual data for The Chandler in compariosn with other schools in Surrey. Actual index means performance of the school (as based on published league tables) Predicted index is the expected performance of the school (based on Experian's Mosiac UK mix of its pupils) Performance is the extra value added by school (the difference between column one and column two) Research published by the data agency Experian, in collaboration with Richard Webber, of the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London

FAQ
The following advice is taken from the QCA web. More information can be gained by visiting the QCA website on the link below or from searching the site using the useful links on the side of this page.
http://www.qca.org.uk/qca_8817.aspx
Q: Why does my child have to take the tests?
A: The national curriculum sets out what all children in England have a
right to learn. National curriculum tests provide a snapshot of how the national
curriculum is being delivered across the country. The tests are designed to
cover work that your child has learnt over the previous years and provide the
teacher with a good basis from which to plan their future learning. It is
compulsory for all children in state schools who have reached the end of the key
stage to sit the national curriculum tests.
Q: When are the tests usually held?
A: National curriculum tests at key stages 2 and 3 will be taken towards the
beginning of May. Up-to-date information on exact dates can be found on this
website through the link on the right hand side of this page. Your child's
school will also be able to provide further information.
Q: What happens if my child is ill or we have a family emergency on the day
of the test?
A: If it is unavoidable that your child misses the test, you must contact
the school immediately - they can advise you on what to do. The school may have
to request a timetable variation so that your child can sit the test on another
day. Schools cannot request a timetable variation if a child is on holiday. You
should check the dates of the tests before booking a family holiday so that your
child does not miss them. If it is not possible for your child to sit the test
on another day, then they will only receive a teacher assessment level for that
subject.
Q: What are conditions for my child when they are taking the key stages 2 and
3 tests?
A: National curriculum tests at key stages 2 and 3 are carried out under
test conditions. If you think that the test arrangements aren't suitable for
your child, for example if your child has a hearing or visual impairment or they
have a statement of special educational needs, then the tests can be modified as
necessary. You should speak to your child's school to find out more about the
test conditions and what support may be available. Your child will be able to
ask questions about the test. If they need to go to the toilet, then they can
put up their hand and ask permission.
Q: What happens if my child doesn't pass the tests?
A: National curriculum tests are not 'pass' or 'fail' tests. They are used
to check your child's progress in school. The results of the tests are the basis
on which future learning is built.
Q: How will the results be used?
A: Teachers use the results to help plan the next
stage of your child's education. The information from the tests shows teachers
what areas your child is good at and where they might need extra help or
practice. Results are also collected so that the government can see how schools
are performing locally and nationally.
