Our School

All we aspire to is summed up in our school motto 'Let Your Light Shine.'  This expresses our desire to provide an environment where each child will develop the self esteem and motivation to become the best they can be.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

We provide a safe, secure and caring, Christian environment in which children can develop academically, socially, creatively, spiritually and morally. We aim for our pupils to be become fully equipped for the challenges of later life in an advancing technological world and an integrated society. We value all achievements, talents and interests and recognise the importance of the development of the "whole" child through the setting of high expectations and a challenging and creative curriculum.

CHANDLER SCHOOL VALUES
These values have been formulated by staff and children and are values that everyone at The Chandler School works towards. They may feature in classroom charters (although not necessarily in this format) and in other documentation. We believe that they are all positive statements worth striving for.

We set high personal standards in behaviour and academic work.

We have respect for property, achievements and the opinions of others.

We show tolerance, support, sympathy and politeness to all.

We value trustworthiness and integrity.

We believe in good team, school and community spirit.

We enjoy healthy competitiveness.

We strive to be the best we can be.

These values are embodied in our School Rules... The 4 P's...

Polite

Purposeful

Positive

Peaceful

What have been our successes this year?
This year we have built on the successes of the past and consolidated the outstanding progress made. We have embedded our creative and connected curriculum, we have improved our  skills based College on Fridays and we have completed the transformation of the school grounds and buildings. We have also introduced our Learning journals to help the children understand more clearly their personal learning journey. This compliments the excellent work that continues on Learning Styles. A particular success this year has been our focus on Outdoor Learning and especially the Woods Project. The appointment of our new Deputy has raised the profile of this and our children are really benefitting. We now feel we have an exciting bespoke curriculum that is broad and balanced and a learning environment that will facilitate it. This view, confirmed by Ofsted who visited us last year and gave us ‘outstanding’ for curriculum and for personal development and safe guarding as well as leadership and Governance. The SIAS inspection which followed was equally impressive and underlined what a spiritual and nurturing education the children at The Chandler are blessed with. All this is testimony to the expertise, dedication and inspiration of the whole staff.

What are we trying to improve?
Despite our continued success we are certainly not complacent. Our detailed and wide ranging SDP highlights all the areas we aim to improve in the coming year but the key for us continues to be making learning more relvant and related. The more challenging and connected the learning experiences are the more motivated the children will be and this will inevitably drive up standards still further. English and Maths attainment stay at the fore of our work but in this meaningful context. Pupil Tracking is firmly established and enables staff to provide effective and appropriate support where needed and to ensure the more able continue to be challenged. We believe that as teachers personalise the learning experiences and children become more active participants in their learning journey, the basic skills of literacy and numeracy will be enhanced in a powerful way. INSET provision has focussed on this and with the launch of our new Web Site there will be every opportunity to develop the children’s learning beyond school. This will be a key area for development in 2011/12 along with our aim to launch a community award called The Chandler Community Challenge. Together with our proven success in Extended provision and plans for more, we will really be fulfilling our aim to make every child a successful learner, confident individual and responsible citizen.
